Liner notes and Track by track comments by Victor Sol:
This album was released as a C-90 cassette in 1985, with a handmade slipcase made out of old wall paper (inside out) and an eight page booklet, black on red cardboard.
It sold about 100 copies, mainly through Staalplaat in Amsterdam.
Tracks 1-14 and 23-26 were recorded at home 1984/85, while tracks 15-22 are live at Heaven in Frankfurt, 7.6.1985.
There are a few different influences here:
Tape loop experiments à la Severed Heads, but more chaotic (if possible), hand sequenced analogue synths with debts to Cabaret Voltaire and the Severed Heads circa "Dead eyes opened".
Fripp-ish long tape delay sounds are here as interludes, also starting off the live side of the cassette.
Plus treated drum machine excercises, a song or two and some other surprises...
The live event at Heaven in Frankfurt was organised by my friend Martin Schopf, with some other bands playing the same night as well.
I believe Hypnobeat played (with me doing double duty) and possibly Roman Rütten with Schaum der Tage (?).
Martin was the most amazing DJ, always but also particularly that night, playing Chris & Cosey, Attrition, Severed Heads, Cabaret Voltaire, Die Form, DAF, Liaisons Dangereuses, Kraftwerk, Portion Control etc.etc.etc.
_____________
Side A of the original cassette:
God's will
Synchronized tape loop experiments, inspired by early Severed Heads tapes and records.
Sensory overload is guaranteed for all...
Crisple
The rhythm (and its audio processing) of this track owes a bit of a debt to the sound of Krisma's "Clandestine Anticipation" LP - one of my favourite records of all times.
The track features the voice and percussion of my friend Fritz plus me playing cornet, Cosey Fanni Tutti style, in a large abandoned factory, with the natural reverb of the space adding to its density.
The undead lion
Another experimental track featuring hand synchronized tape loops.
MCH 78
A loopy Casio and rhythm track - we did a lot of those during those days.
Coolcab
A nod to the Cabs and their use of sequenced sounds...
This track was recently featured on the vinyl only compilation “Underground Wave Volume 6” on Walhalla Records from Belgium.
Guitarloop
Synchronized loops using “found” tapes (from the trash bin, probably) for that “mangled classics” feeling…
The happy boys (dress in white)
All sounds played by hand on an Electronic dream plant Gnat synth, recorded in a two minute loop on an old Echoplex tape delay.
Marga
Installment No.4 of hand synchronized tape loops.
Evil senses
This is probably my favourite track of this tape - and probably the most finished sounding of the lot. It features several nearly synchronised tracks of TR-808 rhythms with hand-played sequences and melodies. The use of tapes hint towards its debt to early Cabaret Voltaire - and the Severed Heads.
Sort of a homage to them, not intended to be a copy.
G4
Some layered tracks of Electronic Dream Plants Gnat synthesizer.
Lovely piece of equipment, very unusual and fun.
Yellow and black plastic casing, touch keyboard, no moving keys.
PNG
A track devoted entirely to the fabulous PNG synthesizer, which was hand-built using Flipper machine sound chips, by my friend Niko Heyduck.
What an incredible machine, great for abstract, noisy sounds.
Harbour plants
This track was based on a dream I had.
I woke up one morning with a piece of music in my head and some lyrics to match - and went right away to record it, before it was lost.
I came pretty close to what I wanted it to sound like :-)
Pussytronic
Some fripp-ish loop experiments, courtesy of an old tape delay with sound-on-sound.
Side B:
Pussytronic
Live Fripp-style loops, played with a keyboard instead of a guitar...
Six Peg
Live version of this Korg Polysix arpeggio track with Casio MT-30 (Lars) and guitar (Stefan) played live
Free Jazz
Electronic Free Jazz, not quite...
CR-8000 rhythms and walking bass on MC-202 plus 2 Casio keyboards and some tapes, live.
Cpt. USA (Bird)
To the Super Zeroes of our time....
Tape Ambience
To set the synthesizers etc. for the next track, we used a tape of pre-recorded electronics to fill the gap...
Discorder
Live track with Stefan on bass, Lars on guitar, TR-808 rhythms, MC 202 sequencer and effects. Our take on the New-est Order (hence the title) - note the tape speed change at the beginning - oops. That's live for you.
Bagloop
Synchronized tape loops of guess-what...
Pussytronic 2
Live outro of fripp-ish loops...
Home studio recordings and versions of live tracks “at home” from here on:
Four Walls
Stefan and I had fun emulating Phil Manzanera's "Primitive guitars" one afternoon.
Sounds like Spain and remotely like The Raybeats, in a different setting.
We also recorded a version of Iggy Pop's "Nightclubbing" around the same time...
Six Peg
Korg Polysix arpeggios (with its amazing chorus effect in full bloom) with Casio MT-30 (Lars) and guitar (Stefan) overdubs. Stefan on Polysix pitch wheel.
Cpt. USA (Bird)
Studio version of this ode to Super Zeroes...
Stefan on guitar, Lars on rhythms, bass and birds.
Entangled
Final track on this cassette...
Sex Bizarre studio recording with Lars on rhythms, synths, MC-202 sequencer/synth, Casio MT-30 and treatments.
